The costs of weddings keep going up every year, so it’s a good idea to look for ways to extend your budget and still have the wedding and reception you’ve always dreamed of. Many couples are beginning to use creative ideas for their wedding receptions. A dessert reception theme is among the newest ideas for a wedding reception.
Purchase large platters of assorted cookies from bakeries, caterers, and even grocery stores, if you can get them at an affordable cost. You can arrange the cookies yourself on the table along with table decorations or you can even use the platters the cookies come in. Be sure and choose an assortment of chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, snicker doodles, double chocolate, or any other favorites. Everyone loves cookies!
And who doesn’t love chocolate? Chocolate fountains at wedding receptions are beginning to be used more and more. They are beautiful, smell delicious, and make a great dessert table! If you don’t really want to purchase one, they are relatively inexpensive to rent. You’ll also want to have large bowls of pretzels, marshmallows, strawberries and other fruits, Oreo cookies, graham crackers, and anything else you can think of to dip in chocolate.
ICE CREAM SUNDAE BAR
An ice cream bar is a perfect choice, since almost everyone loves ice cream! You may want to do this through a caterer since they have everything needed to keep it from melting. You’ll want to have vanilla or chocolate ice cream set out in bowls for your guests to build their own sundae. Offer an assortment of good things to choose from, such as chocolate sauce, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, whipped cream, chocolate chips, and much more! Yummy!
A candy table at your wedding reception is another fun and delicious idea. You can also use the candy as wedding favors for your guests. Put large bowls of your favorite kinds of candy on the table, along with little take home boxes. Place scoops in the candy for each guest to help themselves to their favorite and take some home for later.
Everyone has to taste the wedding cake! Have one of your dessert tables at your reception include both the wedding cake and the groom’s cake. Have someone slice the cake so that each guest can come by and have a piece.
As you probably know, not everyone will be able to handle a dessert reception with sugar everywhere. You’ll want to be sure and include some sugar free snacks and candy (clearly marked) for anyone with diabetes or just trying to cut back on sugar. And by all means, don’t forget coffee, tea, lemonade, water, soft drinks, and of course, milk!
