Almost all brides dream that their wedding day will be straight out of a storybook! It’s the one they’ve dream about since they were young. They usually want the biggest and best event anyone has ever seen and they want their guest to remember it for years to come. It all seems perfect…..except the large guest list can get expensive! When deciding on who you will include on your guest list, it’s important to remember that if you could cut as little as 10 people off your list, you could save hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars.
When making your guest list, first think about where you want to have your wedding and your reception. You’ll want to be sure that the venue you choose is large enough to accommodate the number of people on your guest list. If you’re planning a very small, intimate service, invite only your closest family members and friends. There’s no way you can make everyone happy, and although most people will understand, prepare yourself for anyone that may feel slighted.
On to the making of the list! Make a list of everyone you can possibly think of to invite. Co-workers, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, roommates and others will make this first list. Write it all down on paper. Be prepared! This list will add up quickly!
Next, take a red marker and cross out exactly half of the names on the list. As you go through the list, think about anyone that you could do without seeing at your wedding. It’s also important to remember that if you’re only inviting someone to your wedding because you feel obligated to do so, for any reason….. take them off the list. While you’re crossing off names, also put an asterisk by anyone you really would like to be there. The asterisk list includes all your best buds and immediate family.
The next step is to sit down together with your fiance’ and decide on a list that is non-negotiable. This list consists of the people that absolutely must be present at your wedding. You’ll probably find that this list includes mostly immediate family members and those especially close friends who will most likely be a bridesmaid or groomsmen.
Remember…..the best way to save money on your wedding is to trim that guest list! You can do it!
