As we arrived on the outskirts of Folly Beach, SC on July 15th, I couldn’t help but smile. Huge letters painted on the the old ship before entering town read, “7/15/11 Congrats Ben & Jamie!”
Yes, Jamie and Ben got married! Jamie Wisner Almost Fulghum is now Jamie Wisner FINALLY Fulghum! It was on Friday afternoon, July 15, 2011 in Folly Beach, South Carolina, and it could not have been more beautiful! Their closest friends and family were present to witness their vows and be a part of this wonderful event.
The day began with heavy thunderstorms and lightning, but it didn’t take long for the skies to turn blue and the sun to shine bright over Folly Beach. Winds were strong coming in off the Atlantic Ocean and produced beautiful white capped waves lapping against the sandy beach.
The white wedding chairs arrived right on time and were placed in rows on the beach, just beyond the gorgeous six bedroom beach house, leaving an aisle for the barefooted wedding attendants to make their procession.
Ben, the groom, was ever so handsome, dressed in his khaki shorts and white linen cabana shirt. His father, Glen Fulghum, was his Best Man, along with 4 groomsmen. They were brothers, Evans Fulghum and Ryan Fulghum, and Travis Foust. They all wore matching khaki shorts and white linen cabana shirts… including little Hayden, a/k/a Hay-Hay. Mini calla lily boutonnieres were pinned on all the guys before they followed me down to the beach to begin the procession and the ceremony.
Matron of Honor was Jamie’s sister in law, Tena Fulghum along with 4 bridesmaids. They were Melissa Fulghum, Yvette Pryor, Kambria Sabo, and Jennifer Smalley. The girls were gorgeous in their ocean blue satin dresses and carried a single long stem calla lily tied with a sheer white ribbon.
As Jamie proceeded down the steps and onto the beach, all eyes were upon her. She was beautiful! Her dress was a short white chiffon with layered ruffles and bling studded straps. Her blonde hair was pulled up in the back with soft curls and white flowers. Jamie was given in marriage by her son, Justin.
Justin escorted his Mom down the aisle and they paused a moment at the first chair on the left, first row. She pulled a pink rose from her bouquet and placed it in the empty chair in memory of her mother, who would have been seated there.
Vows were said, rings were exchanged, and the two were pronounced husband and wife. Ben kissed his bride and little Hay-Hay pulled on his mommy’s dress and buried his face in his daddy’s shirt to get their attention. I presented them as Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Patterson Fulghum and the guests cheered, as well as all the beach onlookers that had gathered close by for a peek!
After beach photography of everyone in attendance, they all enjoyed cooling off with cold drinks and wedding cake. The wedding cake was very simple but oh so elegant! It was a round 2 layer cake with white fluffy icing, adorned with lots of gorgeous white sea shells. After the cake was cut and served, everyone gathered for dinner at The Pier Restaurant and an evening filled with memories for a lifetime.
“Poets often describe love as an emotion that we can’t control, one that overwhelms logic and common sense. That’s what it was like for me. I didn’t plan on falling in love with you, and I doubt if you planned on falling in love with me. But once we met, it was clear that neither of us could control what was happening to us. We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has happened only once, and that’s why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I’ll never forget a single moment of it.” ~ Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook)
