It was a cloudy day on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, GA, but a perfect day for an elopement! Steve Papas and Rachel Beatty were married on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 12 noon among the huge driftwood trees scattered on the beaches of Jekyll island GA.
Rachel looked amazing in her wedding gown as she and Steve walked the sandy path to the beach. Steve’s 2 girls and Rachel’s 2 boys were so excited and ran ahead to see the beach and the driftwood trees.
Driftwood Beach on Jekyll island is like no other place. It is breathtaking! It has a way of pulling you into the trees for a climb just to sit within the arms and feel the magnificent strength and beauty of our natural earth.
A beautiful spot was chosen for the ceremony and everyone stood in place. Steve and Rachel said their vows and they were pronounced husband and wife. After the kiss, the children cheered and clapped! They were beyond excited for the families to be as one.
The photographer, Luke Smith, had been shooting throughout the ceremony and continued with romantic shots of Rachel and Steve. The children played in the trees and climbed the strong limbs while waiting for family photos to begin. So much fun!
Just as the photography ended, the rain drops began to fall. As luck would have it with 4 children, the youngest of the boys fell from a limb and warranted a trip to the ER with a sprained thumb and a cut foot. Rachel and Steve were so happy to finally be married, a detour byway of the ER was just a hiccup.
When two people are in love with each other, it shows. It was no accident that Rachel and Steve met that fateful night at dinner, 7 years ago. What an honor to perform this marriage and to know that it is a good thing…a very good thing.
