Maria McCoy and Uthman Villanueva were married at high noon on Sunday, April 6, 2014 surrounded by their family and closest friends. The ceremony took place on the lawn in view of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the pool waterfall from the stunning Villa De Suenos mansion on the other. Although rain was in the forecast, we were lucky and didn’t even have a sprinkle!
Canon in D was played on the keyboard by Maria’s good friend Helga, and the processional began. Uthman’s mother, Frances, was escorted by her second son Iman and Maria’s mother, Claudia, was escorted by her husband and Maria’s father, MC. Uthman, the groom, along with his best man and brother Iman, proceeded in order, followed by groomsmen, Adam, and Monsoor. They were so handsome in their black tuxedos and navy ties as they stood in place. The bridesmaids, Alethia and Nadine processed in order before Maria’s sister and Matron of Honor, Christie. They were stunning in their fuchsia pink, knee length dresses. Maria’s niece and flower girl, Abby, wore a sweet little fuchsia pink dress and carried a basket of flower petals that she sprinkled along the way.
The trumpet music of Here Comes The Bride, was played by Maria’s nephew, Colby, age 12. Maria and her father, MC, descended the stairs and onto the lawn, Uthman was overcome with emotion. The two would be married at last!
It was no wonder Uthman was overcome with emotion. Maria was absolutely gorgeous! She wore an off white, floor length wedding gown of chiffon and crepe with a beautiful V neck bodice which was attached to the skirting with a light mint colored waist band and embellished with tiny pearls. Her dark brown hair was pulled up with soft curls in the back and babies breath intertwined. Their eyes met as she stepped to the center of the ceremony.
As they held hands and looked into each other’s eyes, they said their vows between heartfelt tears and with such love that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house…or yard. Rings were exchanged and they were pronounced husband and wife. A special blessing and benediction was said by Maria’s Godmother, Karen Conway and friend Polly Westra, while the guests all stood and joined hands together. The marriage was sealed with a kiss and the happy couple exited the ceremony to the music of Pharrell Williams, Happy. The guests cheered with delight!
As the reception began on the pool and portico level, the photographer, Kevin Lemere, took family groups and romantic portraiture on the grounds and throughout the estate, being careful not to exclude the magnificent wine cellar and horse stables…always a favorite of couples and photographers!
The food was blessed and the guests enjoyed a bountiful and delicious spread of food catered by David Ouimet and his crew at Purple Sage Catering. After the meal, several family members and close friends gave heartfelt toasts to the newlyweds. Both families were grateful to each other for their time spent together this week. Although no rain was in sight to make sure we were drenched, one family member did take an accidental dip into the pool. She was lucky and remained on her feet in the shallow end!
I have to to say that Maria and Uthman were a dream couple to work with for their wedding day. They were so sweet and agreeable throughout the planning stage. They were focused on their future together and this day was just the beginning of it. Nothing could possibly happen to ruin their wedding day because they would be married in the end, and that was the most important thing of all.
