Jerry Sauermilch and Barb Metscher tied the knot in a beautiful beach wedding at high noon on May 21, 2014 on Jekyll Island’s Driftwood Beach. They were surrounded by 30 of their close family members having come all the way to Georgia from Wisconsin. Jerry and Barb enjoy traveling to different locations around the map and when they visited Jekyll Island last year, the choice for their destination wedding was found!
Driftwood Beach is scattered with massive, overturned driftwood trees that have been in this same location for hundreds of years. They were evidently blown over and strewn about from heavy winds or hurricanes. This beach is very unique and just the right feel for these two.
The temps were in the 80’s with a little breeze flowing. A little warm, but not too terribly hot and just perfect for Barb and Jerry. Their guests were all seated and the music began. The initial S for Sauermilch was outlined with seashells in the center of the aisle. Barb’s 2 older children, Rachel and Jason played guitars beautifully together and began the musical procession. The ribbon was removed from the back chairs and the officiant, Jerry, and Barb’s youngest son, Ben proceeded down the aisle to the front of the chosen ceremony location and turned to face the seated guests.
Barb stepped onto the beach and walked forward to the ceremony location and down the aisle to her groom. She was gorgeous in her white floor length gown, her long dark hair curled around her shoulders and back. They came together and held hands immediately to calm each other. At last, they would be married!
The wedding ceremony began with words of love and the celebration of marriage. The wedding vows were spoken and wedding rings were exchanged as a token and as a pledge of their love for each other. The two were finally pronounced husband and wife and Jerry kissed his beautiful bride! They turned to face their guests and for the very first time, they were introduced as Jerry and Barb Sauermilch.
