Dreams Come True On Cumberland Island | Cumberland Island Wedding Planner

A dream came true today for Jessica Doane as she married the love of her life, Shawn Jeffery on beautiful Cumberland Island, Georgia. They were married in the First African Baptist Church located at the north end of the island. The First African Baptist Church was established in 1893 and then rebuilt in the 1930’s. It was the site of the September 1996 wedding of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.

Since Jessica was a young girl, she was completely awestruck by the famous pictures she had seen of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette when they married in a little church on an island off the coast of Georgia. She secretly daydreamed of herself in those pictures as she married a handsome prince of her own.

Years flew by and Jessica met the man of her dreams, Shawn Jeffery. She never forgot the wedding dream she had from all those years ago and after talking with Shawn, they decided to do a little googling. Isn’t the internet awesome?

The wheels began to roll and everything fell right in place for a July 4, 2014 elopement to Cumberland Island, Georgia. They would to be married in the same little First African Baptist Church, just the same as JFK, Jr and Carolyn Bessette.

Reservations were made for lodging and a romantic dinner for the eve of their marriage at The Horse Stamp Inn in Waverly, GA. Horse Stamp Inn is nestled on a secluded tree–covered property with expansive green fields, a rustic horse barn and artesian fresh water pond. The Horse Stamp Inn is the perfect romantic get-a-way.

Flights were booked and all the details were completed. The day finally arrived for their trip to Georgia. They would return as Mr. and Mrs.

The morning began early as Nikki Roman @ Joey & Roman Salon, Jasna Dzafer @ Healthy Nails by Jasna, and Tawny @ Salon Ellapar arrived to do their magic. Jessica was indeed a princess when they left.

Luke Smith, the photographer arrived shortly thereafter to capture some get ready shots and a few details before they all would depart for the port at St. Marys.

The Cumberland Queen Ferry was docked and ready for departure. Jessica and Shawn boarded the ferry with Luke, the photographer, and Jessica’s beautiful bouquet of peach and light pink peonies and garden roses. Luke was loaded down with camera equipment to make sure everything was documented in pictures.

The 45 minute ferry ride to Cumberland Island was a relaxing trip on board the Cumberland Queen. The sun was shining bright and the cool breeze over the water made one want to sit back and breathe in the fresh air. Cumberland Island was just ahead and it wouldn’t be long now!

They arrived at the church and Jessica could barely believe she was finally there. It was just like the pictures she had seen all those years ago. Her dream was coming true.

Jessica and Shawn entered the church and were married in a short ceremony in the same church, in the same spot, as John F. Kennedy, Jr and Carolyn Bessette. Jessica’s dream had come full circle. They kissed the sweetest kiss and followed the same steps out of the church from that famous picture of years ago.
